If you have a spare few dollars, you might like to help out the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, a U.S. organisation that helps the creators or distributors of comic books with their legal battles.
Here’s what the site says about its purpose:
Throughout its existence, the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund has carried out its mission to protect free speech in comics through the generous support of fans and professionals alike. At conventions, through benefit books and other fundraisers, the comics community has rallied behind the First Amendment. No media has a more enthusiastic base of support than comics, and the CBLDF is proud to play a part in protecting this vital American art form.
However, doing their bit to protect the right to this freedom doesn’t come cheaply. As of October 2006, over $70,000 U.S. had been spent helping to defend Gordon Lee against charges (read the full story here), and that’s not the only work that’s ongoing.
The organisation has such high-profile supporters as Neil Gaiman standing behind it, but every penny counts.
